SUPERNOVA.org -> SUPRNOVA.org

beri, beri, beri…:

The legendary BitTorrent site – supernova.org – will be back online, back in business, and back in action, thanks to those kind folk over at Pirate Bay. Sloneck, the former owner of the site and current owner of the domain, decided to donate it in the interests of nostalgia and its loyal customer base. On his motives for the donation, Sloneck had this to say:
“The domain was doing nothing. I know that domain has some nostalgic value and some people would be more then happy to see it back online. I don’t use it, and TPB is the only team that I know will use it correctly.”
He went on to explain that the site would look the same as before and, further, that this was part of the agreement with The Pirate Bay: “They can upgrade it, but they cannot change the appearance completely”.
Supernova will be a torrent index and will not use its own tracker. There will also be a fresh new forum launched that will work with both Supernova and The Pirate Bay. This forum – ‘the community’ – will be moderated in some way by Supernova’s former owner. The forums will be sited at SuprBay.org and, by all accounts, are already up and running.
Pirate Bay administrator Brokep cited the reason for their decision to rekindle the Supernova fire as being a signal to the P2P community and to the those that would have it shut down:
“We talked it over and decided it was something people would have use for, it would help the torrent community and it would also signal that if you shut one down it will get back up again.”.
There can be no disagreement that this resurrection will be welcome news to the P2P file sharing community. It also presents something of a kick in the teeth to the Big Four music cartel – along with their supporting government and legal aides – who are trying to ensure such organisations are shut down, not relaunching like a Phoenix from the flames.

Demonoid.com
————————————————————————————————————————————————————–

“The CRIA threatened the company renting the servers to us, and because of this it is not possible to keep the site online. Sorry for the inconvenience and thanks for your understanding.”
sedaj pa piše samo še:
The site is currently down.
If you wish to visit the forum created to keep the community together, click here to continue.
Please note that the forum is NOT FILE SHARING RELATED IN ANY WAY.
Please read the rules before posting.
CRIA (Canadian Recording Industry Association) je Kanadska RIA.

The popular Demonoid.com, a semi-private BitTorrent tracker, has been taken offline. Both the torrent tracker and the site have been unresponsive for over twenty-four hours. Although there has been no official word, or statement from the Demonoid administrators, TorrentFreak claims that the Canadian Recording Industry Association (CRIA) is responsible for the downtime, but the CRIA has refused to comment (see update below).
TorrentFreak reports that it contacted some of the Demonoid administrators, but even they are not yet sure what happened to the site.
If it does turn out to be the CRIA, this won’t be the first time Demonoid has suffered major downtime due to pressure from the recording industry. Earlier this year Demonoid moved its servers from The Netherlands to Canada after a Dutch anti-piracy group filed a subpoena demanding the site’s ISP remove Demonoid and cough up the administrator’s identities.
It would seem that Canada is not the safe harbor Demonoid was seeking and we suspect that the site will likely move its servers again.
While The Pirate Bay is still the most popular torrent tracker online, Demonoid is a close second. Much of the site’s popularity stems from the fact that membership is limited and strict ratio tracking means Demonoid is faster than most trackers. Demonoid is also remarkably free of the spam and fake torrents released by groups like the recently exposed MediaDefender.
Although the site requires registration for older torrents, Demonoid recently began offering the newer torrents (within the last two weeks) to the general public.
So far there’s no word on when Demonoid may come back online, but as with the resurrected Suprnova.org, it would seem that you just can’t keep a popular torrent site down for long.
[Update: I contacted a CRIA representative and asked about Demonoid, but he told me that "CRIA is not commenting on that situation right now." However, I was able to dig up this transcript on CircuitBox, (via the Demonoid Wikipedia page) which purports to be a transcript of a conversation between TorrentFreak and a member of Demonoid's staff, who pretty adamantly denies that CRIA is involved:
the point i'm trying to make is that Demonoid can't confirm this info... and that article has 1150+ diggs iirc and it's abesolutely overwhelming the staff with floods of people thinking the site was taken down, when we're not sure if it is.. and it puts us as staff in a bad place ... and for the record, there is only ONE admin on Demonoid, and that's Deimos, so until we hear from him, we cannot confirm anything.
So far there has been no word from Deimos, the founder and the head admin of the site. It would seem, at the moment, that no one, including the Demonoid staff, really knows what happened. We'll be sure to keep you updated as we learn more.]

[Update II: Demonoid appears to be back online. See this post for more details]
After a five day outage that started last week, the popular torrent site/tracker Demonoid.com appears to back online — sort of. Early reports say that the site relaunched with the following message on the front page:
We received a letter from a lawyer representing the CRIA, they were threatening with legal action and we need to start blocking Canadian traffic because of this. Thanks for your understanding, and sorry for any inconvenience.
At the moment, Demonoid trackers appear to be working, but the site is currently down. However, it would seem that the site outage is most likely a technical problem. The front door says “the latest changes to the site are giving us some problems – We’ll be back soon.”
TorrentFreak was the first site to note that Demonoid was back online and the rumored ban of Canadian users comes from the TorrentFreak post, with a number of others reporting seeing the same on Digg. The Circuit Box, which has also been following the outage, disputes TorrentFreak’s claims, though it doesn’t give any reasons for doubting it, nor does it offer a different explanation.
If in fact Canadian users are being banned from Demonoid and you happen to be living in Canada, it’s time to learn about proxies.

Konec za Torrentspy.com
————————————————————————————————————————————————————–
San Francisco – Lastniki vsebin so zabeležili novo zmago.

»Pravne razmere v ZDA glede avtorskih pravic, zasebnosti iskalnih zahtevkov in povezav do torrent datotek v rezultatih iskanja so enostavno preveč nevarne,« so dodali.
Razburkana preteklost

Torrentspyovi ukrepi so njegov pravni primer še dodatno zapletli.
